Tuesday Treasures

This week's Tuesday Treasures has a little packaging humor to it. I can't take credit for the Presidential find. My cousin spotted these. I've probably overlooked them a hundred times, but they're pretty funny. Meet the Presidents of Aftershave. This is some crazy Avon aftershave packaging modeled after the presidents. It smelled like good solid old men. Ha.

Jefferson. Roosevelt. Washington.
Good solid men.

Skeeta-Go.
I hate the skeeters. They are bad here in the sticky south.
Maybe these pine cone incense will scare those bastards away.

These teas are at Earthfare (like Whole Foods).
I thought they were funny & fit in for today's treasures.

Happy Tuesday!

Rescue.

It's no secret that I'm a lover of animals. I see any dog and exclaim that it is a baby! I love going to Petsmart to love on all of the shelter animals on Saturdays. I've rescued kittens & I will pick up stray dogs, even if they are wondering in the parking at work. I love animals, more than most people.

So to my sadness, I came downstairs Friday morning, late for work to my Ladybug barking, barking, barking. There was a bunny that appeared to be dead outside our back door with our rescue kitten, Farmer(Abner or Pilgrim, whichever name I chose to call him that day) was circling. I was pissed I had to deal with a dead baby before work. I called the BF to see what I should do with it. He said to put him in the trashcan since it was thrash pickup day. He'd be gone & I wouldn't have to worry about the doggies getting him.
I put on my "hard working man" gloves and went out to take care of business. Well the baby tried to make a run for it. He wasn't dead! I called my boss to see if her husband was home so he could come put the baby out of it's misery. Luckily, he was on his way to work. I picked up the bunny after he screached and brought him in and put him in our smallest puppy kennel & locked him in the bathroom, safe from our animals. I couldn't just leave him in the back yard because my doggies had to potty for the morning and I had to go to work.

I cried all the way to work. I was so sad about that poor bunny that my cat had beat up. I was pissed at the cat. My mom told me it was his nature. I did not like her answer! I thought about the baby for hours until my lunch. I came home to check on the baby. I held him for my whole lunch break. He had a few places where he was missing hair and one of his legs weren't working properly. Poor baby bunny. There are two places in our area that I know help rescues. Opelika Animal hospital and the Auburn University Vet School. I called the Opelika animal hospital (which is our vet) and they said they'd take him. BF took it and dropped it off to be doctored on.
I thought about that baby all day Friday and Saturday. Saturday night I went grocery shopping and ran into my friend who works at the vet. She had great news. The bunny was doing so well they freed him back to nature! I am so glad it worked out this way. That sweet baby will have a full life of munching and hopping through the forest. I loved him, for the day I knew him Have a good life little fellow!

inspiration

I'm always inspired by everything Elsie dreams up, but this caught my eye tonight. I have been thinking about Christmas lately. My biggest thought is to sell off all things I own Christmas & start fresh. I've been dreaming of Christmas color schemes & homemade ornaments. My newest thought is to finish this quilt and use the scraps for as Christmas color scheme/decor/inspiration. I can't very well skip Autumn, as it is the very BEST season. This little lady has gotten my head in the Halloween clouds & I think decorating for Autumn comes before Christmas. I have to remember the proper order of things. Pumpkins. Pumpkins. Leaves. Magic. Pumpkins. Ghost. Pumpkins. Pilgrims. Pumpkins. Christmas tree. Wreath. Presents.

I do believe I need to doodle up some ghouls & goblins in the near future!

Hello! I'm going to start a new feature called Tuesday Treasures to feature the photos of thrift store treasures I've been taking. Here's the first dose of Tuesday Treasures.
Sewing Inspired.

Deluxe Sewing Machine. A definite Treasure.

Loved this oil bottle.

This vignette reminded me of Life in the Fun Lane & a fairy dream garden.
That's a chandelier hanging in an opening of an old door.
This boothkeeper has great setup.

Watch out Blog Friends.

I'm two squares into THE quilt!

quilt.

One of my four goals I set was to make a quilt. Last night I set out cutting strips of the fabric I've kept sacred for over a year now. It's Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks fabric that I bought a stack of at ICE-ATL. I'm going to try out a Log Cabin quilt. This is my inspiration....

Isn't it gorgeous!?

And this is how far I've gotten....

Long ways to go :) One step at a time!

Hump Day!

So I've been the feeling the money crunch, especially after taking the poor Pup to the AU Vet School ER (severe constipation & possible pancreatitis) :( It was no fun & painful for the Pup, but not life threatening, like we had self diagnosed. Anyways, we're low on funds & out of the usual food we eat, so I'm making do. By making do, I'm also clearing out a bunch of stuff that was partially used and had been on the shelves for bit. I present to you.....

My dinner. For the next few days.

Elbow Pasta Bake Mashup

1 lb. ground beef
1 jar pasta sauce
(I used Sam's Club Makers Mark four cheese version-If you're not a big fan of chunky tomatoes, like me, don't get this sauce. Taste is good, Tomatoes bad...Just my opinion)
1-1 1/2lbs elbow pasta (boiled all three pounds & had alot to spare)
1 tub cream cheese...you can dump your grease in the empty tub
half & half (or milk or cream)
1 bag mozzarella cheese(or which cheeses you prefer)
1 bag parmesan cheese blend (I buy the wal-mart version of cheese)
bread crumbs

Brown ground beef in skillet & drain grease. Mix pasta sauce with beef. Boil elbows & drain. Pour elbows into 9x12 casserole dish. Mix in the cream cheese with the warm noodles. Pour Half&Half so that it takes up about 3/4 of the amount of pasta in the casserole dish. (Just eyeball it. The more you add, the runnier the end result. Next time, I think I will mix in an extra bag of cheese with the noodles) Add meat sauce on top of noodle mixture & top with both cheeses & bread crumbs. Bake 30 minutes @ 300F.

This is pretty simple recipe that most items can be substituted or added to, or mixed up. I will definitely do it differently next time, especially by adding more cheese & probably more types of cheese. I won't use the Sam's Club sauce again either. For something I threw together with little cooking experience, I'm pretty proud & pleased with this adventure. Enjoy.

Happy Hump Day!

happy monday.

the sweetest detail. shutter holders (proper name?)

These are from a cemetery in Columbus, GA. There was a cute little building, chapel, perhaps. It would be a rather cute spot for a wedding. Many people prefer to marry in a church "in front of God", why not marry in front of your ancestors. I like it. Nothing like cruising around on a Saturday finding treasures.

I'm joining in on the four simple goals challenge started by elsie.

& to make it official, I posted on Facebook that I am not cutting my hair until May 2012.
I will cut it off on my 27th birthday.

S-U-C-C-E-S-S!

WHAT DOES IT SPELL?
SUCCESS!

Three out of four Starbucks cups have successfully grown roots! The joy of the Starbucks cup...It's clear & so I have visual proof that roots are abundant. No tugging on the cutting to see if it took like guess work. I didn't think of this when I started out, but it was a nice surprise to come across. & speaking of coming across....

Look what I stumbled upon tonight! VERY EXCITE! I kinda gave up and just figured that I would have crazy vines across my front yard for the rest of the summer sans fruit! Well thank you rain. I have five watermelons that I could spot in the dark! I'm growing watermelons & it seems like a dream! They are so cute!

Have a great night! I'm going to daydream of WATERMELONS in MY front yard!
